Mars Red VW Jetta Mk1 — Our Family Car

Purchased brand new in 1984, this Jetta Mk1 has been part of our family ever since. Both my son, daughter and granddaughter learned to drive in this very car. Being restored locally, its Mars Red finish will be shining again in early 2026.

Restoration Progress

1984 — Original Purchase: Brand new from T J Hamilton, Cookstown in Mars Red.
1990s — Daily Driver: Used as the main family car, reliable and well-kept.
2000s — Passed Down: Became the learner car for my son, daughter and later my granddaughter.
2020 — Restoration Begins: Bodywork, repaint in original Mars Red, and interior renewal.
2024 — Engine Overhaul: Full rebuild and tuning to original spec.
2025 — Ongoing: Hopefully soon up and running again after four decades.
